A Backbone In The Lord
by Apostle Cathryn Ndyabagye

I Corin. 3: 10-11 AMP
10According to the grace (the special endowment for my task) of God bestowed on me, like a skillful architect and master builder I laid [the] foundation, and now another [man] is building upon it. But let each [man] be careful how he builds upon it, 11For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is [already] laid, which is Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

With so many tests and temptations around us, how do we overcome them?
We must have a backbone in the Lord. What is a backbone?

Why use this term?

Let's look at the word backbone and see what that consists of:

A physical backbone is a a group of bones or spine in our back, stretching from our skull to our tail bone.

It shields and supports our 'Central Nervous System'.  Our central nervous system is the brain and nerves, which  extends down inside the backbone. The backbone gives supports and protections to those nerves, protects the nervous system from being disturbed, so that it can move our bodies properly.

Without our Central Nervous System, we could not see, hear, speak, talk, think, talk, breathe,  walk, or move.

The backbone also needs good support from us, so that it will not end up crooked.

If was stand with good posture, the backbone will grow out normal. And, we do not stand right and use good posture, we will end up slump or bowed backbone, which will make our body lopsided.

Growing as a Christian is the same way...
The Bible says to work out our own salvation. This means in all areas of our life, we need to be strong in God, His Word and Spirit, to build a good backbone by our habits and faith, leaning on, relying on and have confidence in Jesus, and spreading the gospel to those who do not know Jesus. AMEN

When the backbone is free from injury, and is not broken, all functions of our body will work in the way they are supposed to.

If the backbone becomes broken from injury, we can loose some of our senses such as, touch, taste, smell, hearing or vision, even become paralyzed in parts of our body.

When God saves us, he wants us to have a backbone in the Lord.
He wants us to have a foundation in the Word--being firmly grounded, a good prayer life--with good communication and intimacy with God. We must wear the full armor of God to withstand the devil.

The Father God wants us to walk in his Spirit which leads and warns us from troubles ahead, and the Spirit is our teacher.

With a firm foundation in God, nothing can rock us, or move us from our stand in God.

Just like the backbone, It protects us from the fiery darts of the enemy, and being firmly planted in God's Word gives us the backbone that we need to be strong servants of God.

If we allow sin to come into our lives, it will paralyze our walk with God. Sin will mess up our foundation so that it becomes lopsided. So we need to be righteous in Jesus!

The Holy Spirit is our power inside, and we need to keep our backbone in God strong, so that the Spirit will not be hindered. We don't want God to take His Spirit from us, so we have to keep our hearts right and keep faith in our hearts without doubting.

Did you know that there is a nerve that is in your chest area that is ran by your brain?  The Pre-Bötzinger Complex tells you to breathe. Yes that is right! :) and if that did not work, you would not be able to inhale or exhale.

God made our bodies unique, and it's a miracle how He put us together!  What a wonderful (I AM) God we serve!!

There is another part of your brain that tells you when you are full and happens approximately 20 minutes into your eating time.

Have you noticed there is a point that you feel full about 20 minutes after you eat your meal? (balance of hormonal and neurological signals reaching your brain from your stomach--A hormone produced by your digestive system, called cholecystokinin (CCK), signals your brain when you've eaten to tell you are full).

No matter how much you ate, you will feel the results in 20 minutes after you begin your meal.

God knew just what he was doing when He made our bodies!  Seems he had it all in order of how things were to operate. Every single detail!

Our bodies need to be spiritually fit too, and we really need a backbone in the Lord.

God does not want us to be 'Whimpy Christians'. We must be strong soldiers for Jesus!

When we stay in the Word, use the promises of the word, applying it to our life, walk in the Spirit, and guard ourselves from living in sin,  we will walk by the leading of God in
uncompromisingly righteous faith.

We won't give into temptations, and will resist the devil, and he will have to flee.

We keep growing and our backbone becomes more firm in the Lord. Each trial we face makes us strong. This helps your foundation to be stronger too.

When we know the word, have a real relationship with God, nothing can separate us from His love. AMEN!

God, The Word Jesus, and the Holy Spirit is our backbone!!! HALLELUJAH!

If we allow sin to come into our lives, we can damage our backbone in God. And if we mess up, The Spirit will deal with us on that, and God will forgive us, when we confess our sins.

The anointing of God will be lost and our Christian example spoiled if we do not ground ourselves in God.

We need Prayer, Word of God,
Fellowship, faith in Jesus, walking in the Spirit we will not have a backbone in the Lord like we should.

Jesus said in Luke 2:40
"And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him."

II Corin. 10:4 says, "And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ."

The Spirit can live in each of us and help us to see, hear, and be sensitive to God's will ,and the Spirit shows us all things, and by praying in the spirit, we are  touching Heaven, and God hears our prayers.

We can move mountains, by faith and be moved, and move others through the word of God.  The Spirit is our power!  We need that backbone in the Lord.

To be good examples, to be true to God, real to ourselves and real to others, and living right, we are establishing a strong backbone for
the Lord.

What can break the backbone?  When you break your normal backbone, it disables you and puts you at an abrupt stand-still.
Puts you right on your back!

And when our backbone is broken in Christ, from sin, we open ourselves up the the devil's access! So, we need to keep the armor of the Lord On all the time (with no cracks in it for the darts to hit)! AMEN! So we need a firm foundation as Jesus spoke of.

What does Jesus say about foundation?( Amplified  Bible) Luke 14:28-30, he says, "For which of you, wishing to build a farm building, does not first sit down and calculate the cost [to see]whether he has sufficient means to finish it? Otherwise, when he has laid the
foundation and is unable to complete [the building], all who see it will begin to mock and jeer at him, Saying, This man began to build and was not able (worth enough) to finish.

God wants us to build a firm foundation so that we can be complete in Him and finish the work He sets before us.

So, this means we must know what we are doing in the Lord. We need God's will revealed to us. By hearing the word we learn from God, by praying we talk to God and he speaks to us. AMEN

When we stand solid in Jesus, we shall  not be moved!

If a Christian is not grounded in the Word, and only feeds the flesh, does not pray, he becomes carnal. God does not like us to be carnal. Like being lukewarm.

When the backbone is not there in the Lord. The temple is not complete in God. The temple will be disabled and nonfunctional to God.

If we are the temple of the Holy Spirit, then we must think of that and be sure we keep our temple pure so the Spirit of God won't leave us. AMEN!

We surely do not want to be recycled like the goats do we? NO. We want to be founded like sheep. Children of God!

Jesus was faithful all the way! He completed what God had planned for Him. He did not waver, and He knew that he had to be pure, in order to be the sacrificial lamb for all of us.

Now, are we going to give our all and obey God too? Be faithful all the way? Be pure? To our spouses, families and Church?

God give us that choice to choose which way we will grow and how our backbone will be. That foundation for God!

To be real examples to the world, so we can grow strong in GOD!

I like what Paul says
1 Corinthians 3:10-16 1
Good News Translation (GNT)

10 Using the gift that God gave me, I did the work of an expert builder and laid the foundation, and someone else is building on it. But each of you must be careful how you build. 11 For God has already placed Jesus Christ as the one and only foundation, and no other foundation can be laid.
12 Some will use gold or silver or precious stones in building on the foundation; others will use wood or grass or straw. 13 And the quality of each person's work will be seen when the Day of Christ exposes it. For on that Day fire will reveal everyone's work; the fire will test it and show its real quality. 14 If what was built on the foundation survives the fire, the builder will receive a reward. 15 But if your work is burnt up, then you will lose it; but you yourself will be saved, as if you had escaped through the fire.16 Surely you know that you are God's temple and that God's
Spirit lives in you!

We are held accountable by our life and we should allow God to help us build it for Him.

Let us walk and build in Godly ways. Make the foundation strong in Jesus, build on Godly ways and a firm foundation that will shine for Jesus.
